Brené Brown
Researcher, Storyteller, Professor, Social Worker
As a researcher, storyteller, professor, and social worker, Dr. Brené Brown has been studying courage, vulnerability, empathy, and shame for over 20 years. Her dedication and drive to studying "too subjective" of topics typically seen in research has led to a deeper and greater understanding of both human emotions and how we interact amongst each other, that has benefitted both the scientific community but also the general population as a whole. Brené's ability to take qualitative information, measure it in quantitative ways, and pull meaningful insight from it makes her a leading force in the research community as well as illustrates her remarkable ability to grasp highly complex pieces of human psychology/sociology and relay it back to us in ways that we can all more easily understand. Her tagline, "Stay awkward, brave, and kind" is a simple yet powerful message that reminds us to embrace the pieces of us that are often shunned by society to help us maintain strength, power through, show up during times of adversity and struggle. An author of six #1 New York Times bestsellers, her books include Atlas of the Heart, Dare to Lead, Braving the Wilderness, Rising Strong, Daring Greatly, and The Gifts of Imperfection. She also co-edited alongside Tarana Burke the bestselling anthology You Are Your Best Thing: Vulnerability, Shame Resilience, and the Black Experience. She's the host of two award-winning podcasts, Unlocking Us and Dare to Lead, where she dives into some of the deepest and challenging of topics that we often struggle to talk about. Her TED talk on the Power of Vulnerability is one of the top five most-viewed in the world. She's a research professor at the University of Houston, where she holds the Huffington Foundation Endowed Chair at the Graduate College of Social Work; as well as a visiting professor in management at the University of Texas Austin McCombs School of Business.
